I have separate folders for work done for clients, work done for personal projects, and fan art. Those are divided into sub folders by subject or content.

My file names are kind of arbitrary, but it's usually "character name or subject_descriptor_descriptor2". The second descriptor is usually something like "scan" or "lineart" or "color". So:

IronMan_newarmor_color.psd

I also usually condense anything more than six months old into an archive, and burn it to a disk. I still need to get an external drive.

I dunno, I'm working on streamlining my system a little as well...so many folders. I'll be checking back to see if any one has anything to revolutionize my organizational ways.

Anyway, hope this is in some way helpful. Long comment is looooong.

I organize by date. A folder by each year and inside folders by month or trimesters.

nee, projektname - unterordner, insofern vorhanden, sowas wie "SCANS", "FARBE" und "FERTIG" bei comiczeuchs. das ist eigentlich so die haupt/grundordnung.

I have main folders for Paid Work, personal work. The personal one is divided by genres, so It has folders for things like "Comics", "Robots", "Zombies" and then I always have a "Misc." folder that I can just throw things into and sort out later.

i'm very chaotic, y put random or funny names to the files, and i create folders alphabeticaly like "A" or "G" when a folder is near 4,5 GB, i burn it in a DVD, erased it and begin other new with the next letter. for non-personal works, each project in a separate folder, with subfolders if necesary (stages, chapers etc)

it's not the best choise, if you have a big HD.

don't you feel like compiling work for a web gallery or such sorted in subjects? Just boys art for example?
How do you keep track of the content of your images?
